2. EDITORS' NOTES

Hi welcome to another edition of MIBW. There is a
lot of information in today's' issue so sit back and relax and
enjoy this issue.

Today's' issue deals with what it is like to be called the boss.
It may not be all that is cracked up to be. We also have another
article from yours truly regarding how to achieve subscribers
quickly but will that alone keep your list growing?
There is always a quick tip in the Webmaster section that every
publisher should read. This is from one of our subscribers, MJ
Brenner.

Thank you for all the feedback that I received last week. Please
keep them coming.

3. QUICK THOUGHTS

The grass always looks greener on the other side. That is a
phrase that is coming true to me this week. I spent weeks
looking for a new list host when it finally dawned on me. If it's
not broke, stop trying to fix it. You always think the package
has to look good even if the contents are garbage. I have
decided to stop worrying over the little things and focus on the
bigger picture. Does anyone realize how many situations we create
that become problems only because we let them?

Every week I like to sit back and think "what have I learned
about this business, myself and my family that will help me to
become a better person? " Once I have figured this out by Sunday
it helps when Monday pops up and you have a whole new set of
problems to deal with.

5. Feature Article: THE SHOE IS ON THE OTHER FOOT
By Donesia Muhammad

(Being the Boss may not be all that's cracked up to be)

Whether you are starting your own business with or without
employees or maybe you have just been promoted to management,
this article applies to you.

Do you think it's that easy to be the boss?

Working as an employee gives you a very one sided view into the
business world. All your problems and solutions are from an
employees' perspective. No matter how much they are stressing you
out, at the end of the day, you clock out and go home only to do
it all over again the next day.

As an employee, I spent as much time with the other employee's
complaining about management and their problems and insensitivity
to our needs.

" Why cant we get more sick time?"
" So what if I was a few minutes late?"
" Who cares if I take a few office supplies home, they can afford
it"
" When am I getting a raise? Management doesn't understand that I
have bills to pay"

YADA YADA YADA

In between that all of management has no privacy. Every aspect of
their life is being gossiped about because they are our bosses
and too bad if they can't take the heat.

One day you get that call telling you that you have been moved up
into management. Or even better, you finally get your business
license and you are ready to go. Hooray.

BUT WAIT,

Life is completely different now. You can no longer clock in and
clock out. You have work to do. You have to fix all the errors,
all the screw ups. You thought it was bad when your boss chewed
you out, wait until you are a manager. You really get chewed out
from the owners. You have to micro manage everyone, you have to
listen to all their problems and you are expected to solve them.

YOU LITERALLY FEEL LIKE AN ADULT BABYSITTER.

" Can you lend me a few bucks, my lights got cut off"
" Is it okay if I take off Friday early, my tax check came in"
" Well I'm sorry if I didn't finish the file, I figured you might
finish it up for me"
" Yes I know about the dress code but this outfit looked so cute,
can you bend the rules this one time?"

When there is a problem between employees it is up to you to
mediate and resolve the situation. You pay their taxes, their
insurance, you contribute to their 401K. etc.

Remember when you used to laugh with your co workers talking
about your boss and complaining whenever they did something that
you didn't like.

Well, The Shoe Is On The Other Foot Now

The Voodoo Doll Now Has Your Name On It...

Now wait a minute, before you start saying that employees are not
like this, and managers are not like that, just keep reading

The whole point of this article is to let you know that you can't
expect that because you are a manager or business owner that it
gets easier, it gets harder. You used to wait for a paycheck on
Fridays', now if you don't complete the payroll, no one is
getting paid Friday. If you need more office supplies who is
going to order them? Duh You

In order to improve your business, your job, yourself, understand
what every persons' role is in a business and appreciate their
job and in turn they will appreciate yours.

If you are a one person business like I am then just look in the
mirror and complain to the boss about your hours!!

Please note, I am not talking about the bosses that are not
worthy to be called manager. The ones who can't understand why
you need to take a day off for a very sick child. The ones who
expect you to come back early from maternity leave. The ones who
think your only purpose in life is to do their bidding. No I am
not talking about those.

8. WEBMASTER TIP

You Really Don't Want To Succeed!

So many people working online give the WORST impression of
themselves I have ever seen! They probably wonder what they
are doing wrong!

I am amazed by the number of ads and websites that display
the worst grammar and spelling. Since our web presence is
only displayed through the written word, Everyone should
proof read their work! If you don't know which word is the
correct usage, get a grammar checker!

More and more I'm coming across SO many mistakes that I
have little faith in the advertisers! If they can't write
competently, why would I believe they are competent to
recommend a program or product?

9. Feature Article II : STEP ONE IS EASIER THAN STEP TWO
By Donesia Muhammad

My ezine "My IBiz Weekly" is fairly new. When I sent out my first
issue on November 16, 2001, I had 23 subscribers. 19 of those
emails were from family. My first concern was how do I get
subscribers.

I can't fail before I even get my feet wet. I started checking
around some websites, reading some of the ezines, and gathering
pointers along the way. I realized that as a new ezine, it might
be beneficial to me to offer free advertisements to entice people
to subscribe. So I started that and it helped to bring in some
subscribers but I needed to get the word out.

I was already familiar with Pamela Heywood from
http://tucats-design.com  and I learned that she started a
advertising co-op for publishers looking for new subscribers. Her
program is great. I started receiving no less than 100
subscribers a week, and pretty soon my list started picking up. I
am now , almost three months later at 1709 subscribers at the
time of writing. I also looked into some other wonderful programs
such as My Wizard Ads and Two Bucks an Ad, as well as Ezines-R-Us
and Ads 4 Subs.

These are some exceptional programs that really help you get your
ezine off the ground. But one tip:

That is just step one, step two is to learn how to keep
subscribers.

It doesn't matter how professional your list software is or how
great your HTML ezine is designed, if you don't have something
worthy to say, forget about it.

There used to be an old saying ( well on the internet anything
past a two years is considered old)

"Content is King"

In my opinion this will always prevail no matter what. There are
some ezines that I subscribe to, I don't care if it's on a free
list host, or the words aren't properly formatted, the content is
so great their words outweigh anything else.

Even if you are not the greatest writer then find good useful
articles to reprint, not just the usual articles that I will see
in ten other ezines on the same day.

Another tip is to have a good ezine personality. What I mean is
you don't want your ezine to sound like a textbook. Throw some of
your personality. Make each issue seem as if you are personally
sending out each issue instead of sending out a "form letter
type" ezine.

I tend to write my ezine in a way that it seems as if I am
talking to you instead of telling you. This has helped me receive
great feedback from subscribers. I have always had a love of
writing and now I have an outlet for that.

I may be new but I am learning...

Good Content
Good Ezine Personality
Good Common Sense

and you are half way there..

11. TIME TO LAUGH...

At long last, the long-suffering boss was
compelled to call Fisk into his office.

"It has not escaped my attention," he pointed
out, "that every time there's a home game at
the stadium you have to take your aunt to
the doctor."

"You know you're right, sir," exclaimed Fisk.
"I didn't realize it. You don't suppose she's
faking it, do you?"

(One More For The Road)

Okay, if you've ever struggled with a computer <grin>,
you'll appreciate this one. I think we've all been there
at one time or another. Enjoy:

Young Judy was having trouble with her computer,
so she called Tony, the computer guy, over to her desk.

Tony clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.
As he was walking away, Judy called after him, "So,
what was wrong?"

He replied, "It was an ID Ten T Error."

A puzzled expression came over Judy's face. "An
ID Ten T Error? What's that? In case I need to fix
it again."

Tony gave her a grin. "Haven't you ever heard of
an ID Ten T Error before?"

"No," replied Judy.

"Write it down," he said, "and I think you'll
figure it out."

She wrote..." I D 1 0 T."
