Okay here we go with Part Two today of the Ebook Series.
Today we are dealing with the pros and cons of Reselling Ebooks.
We will look at the different methods that we can use to make
money from ebooks.
Actually I realized halfway down the article that it was way too
long for a regular issue so I have to continue most of it in next
week's edition.
I know with all the open projects I have on my plate now that I
have to take a week off from publishing sometime in May, I just
haven't figured out when :) I will let you know beforehand.
Today's column from Virginia ties in right with the ebook
tutorial as she gives you the basics in correct writing for your
professional ebook. You may think it's a small detail but trust
me it hurts your ebook when there are obvious spelling and
grammar errors.
I would also like everyone's opinion on today's topic of the

This is Part Two of an the Ebook Series designed to show you how
to create, design, market, and promote your ebook the right way,
not the hyped up way.
Today we are going to learn all about the different ways to sell
your ebook.
Now if you are wondering why we jumped to this topic and we
haven't even gone into the layout of the ebook yet..??
Simple. This is an important topic to discuss and it should be
dealt with first, because determining whether you are going to
sell an ebook, give it away, or start an affiliate program is one
of the major factors that any ebook author these days has to
figure out before you even start to create the pages.
But there are also a lot of misconceptions and that clouds the
new ebook authors out there. So let's get rid of the ebook drama
once and for all. Let's all get our heads out of the Ebook
Gutter.
At one point in your online career, you begin to gather quite a
few ebooks. Most newsletters and websites offer ebooks just for
visiting and subscribing to their newsletters.
Once you start to read a few, you begin to see those words that
seem like pure magic to you...

Yup, that is just about we all feel the first time. Until we
learn the facts first.
There are various methods to make a commission from selling an
ebook.
> Resell Rights
> Master Reprint/Resale Rights
> Giveaway Rights ( will be discussed in Part Three)
> Affiliate Programs ( will be discussed in Part Three)
where you receive a percentage of the profits
Now the question is WHICH METHOD WORKS BEST FOR YOU?
Looking at this guide will help you when you decide to sell other
author's ebooks as well as how you plan to sell or give away your
ebook.
1. MASTER RESALE/REPRINT RIGHTS
Many software and ebook authors allow a set number of Master
Resale Rights to their product. This basically means that you are
now licensed to sell their product ( sometimes you can also set
your own price) and retain 100% of the profits.
You may also be allowed to bundle their products with your own
for back end sales promotions or as a bonus for ordering with you
for your services.
These licenses can be almost as much as 5-10 times the price of
the product itself. This is ideal is the product is worth the
price of the license.
You have to look at the quality of the product and it's
reputation.
Since you own the product now, then it is YOUR successful
customer service techniques that will also be a determining
factor in your sales.
Good promotion efforts can make your initial investment worth
it's while.
Say, for example, that you purchased an ebook on How To Make A
Million Dollars in 2 Days Flat, you may get a bit disappointed
when you don't see your email inbox flooded with sale
notification emails.
When looking for a product to purchase Master Resale Rights,
always:
Check any demos of the product to see if you can use it. If you
don't find it useful, then how will your customers?
Get Testimonials, ask publishers, go to discussion forums, get
everyone's opinion, good or bad.
Check out the competition and see what is different from what you
want to buy. Talk with the owner of the product and don't be
afraid to ask them whatever you need to know. After all, it is
your money going into their pockets.

2. STANDARD RESELL RIGHTS
If Master Resale Rights are too pricey for you, then the next
best and the most popular these days amongst ebook sellers.
This also can help you "test the waters" on a particular product
in case you decide to upgrade to a Master license.
In most cases, you are given resell rights when you purchase a
product and register with the owner.
I see good and bad points to this method of selling because it
has been abused worse than free email accounts and free ads.
Publishers: How Many People Just Want Your Bonuses And Couldn't
Care Less About Your Ezine?
Stop giving them the whole free world when they subscribe. Yes we

Now don't start the Ebook Competition.
You know what I am talking about. Giving away any ebook you come
across just to keep your readers interested. This shows blatant
disrespect for the ebook author who spent countless hours
creating an ebook that is meant to be sold, only to see a
publisher give it away to anyone who asks.
If you don't get one thing from this tutorial it's this message:
Always, and I mean Always check the copyright information for any
ebook you decide to give away.
Just because Publisher A gave it away doesn't mean that they were
allowed to give it away.
There are plenty of sites and newsletters out there who are
violating the terms and conditions of these ebooks and while we
may say "Oh well, that is the breaks online", wait until you
sacrifice blood, sweat, and tears to write an ebook only to see
it being given away a week after you released it for 50 bucks.
Then you will understand the importance of that last statement.
It' s not the hassle just to keep readers or site visitors.

SO WHAT IS SO BAD ABOUT RESELLING AND KEEPING ALL THE PROFITS?
For The Reseller
Depends on what you are selling and how many other copies there
are of the product out there.
Go ahead and try to sell Million Dollar Emails or Autoresponder
Magic. You may find someone who has no clue that the ebooks are 2
years old and just about everyone and their mother has the resale
rights to it. I am sure Yanik Silver is still making a profit
from it since he is the author, but will you?
How many times have you bought an ebook only to see it given away
the week later on another site?
There is fierce competition out there. Many ebooks are created to
spark your attention but then die a few months later. They have
no staying power and that means that your profits may go down.
Why risk it??
Let's be honest here.
Some ebooks are nothing but self centered Ego Books. The book
only tells you how rich they are from suckers who spent their
money to see pictures of their expensive car ( which they
probably just grabbed the graphic online anyway) and they have a
ton of links that any search in Google could have produced.
And that is what you want to resell?
Evidence of Success is encouraging and motivational.
Just don't rub our face in it.

YOUR AND YOU'RE

As we begin writing our e-books under Donesia's kind
tutelage, I thought it would be worth doing a spot of
revision about certain basic writing mistakes, including
that most common one of when to use "your" and when to use
"you're". So forgive me if you know all this backwards
already, but for those who are still unsure or for those
(and this is probably most of us) who inadvertently make a
mistake when in a hurry to get all those ideas down in
writing, here it is again: It's all to do with whether to
put in the apostrophe or not - and it's easy to work it out
when to do so if you understand what the apostrophe is for.
An apostrophe is used for two main reasons:
1)To denote that something belongs to someone - i.e. John's
e-book, the cat's littertray; or
2) to indicate that a letter has been missed out.
It's reason no. 2 that's operating with "you're" where the
apostrophe stands for the missing "a" - because "you're" is
just the short way of saying "you are".
"Your", on the other hand - no apostrophe - means
"belonging to you". (That's partly why it gets confusing,
because apostrophes are used with nouns to indicate
"belonging" - as in reason no.1 above - but not with
pronouns or possessive adjectives like your, my, his etc.)
If in doubt, read out loud what you've written and every
time you see "your", test it by substituting "you are". If
that doesn't make any sense, then keep "your", but if you
realize you did mean "you are", then change "your" to
"you're."
That way you won't begin your e-book with a sentence like:
"If your looking to make a living online, then read my
book". Instead you'll realize you meant "If you are
looking" and then you'll be able to write: "If you're
looking to make a living online, then read my perfectly
written e-book!"

Hackers, Credit Card Fraud - OH MY - So Who Cares?

The young man looks at the clock. Geesh, he thinks, "it's 2:00
AM and not a single score." The computer purrs in the
background as he takes a slug of coffee. Suddenly he sits up!
What's this, ah yes a possible target.
His temple starts to pound as his fingers fly across the
keyboard. He quickly runs another script, "YES I'm in". Now
his hands are sweaty and his heart is pounding as he starts to
explore his new conquest. "But first let's drop this little
"backdoor" in here so I can start monitoring the activity on
this little jewel."
Guess what, you have just been hacked!
Unknown to hundreds of unsuspecting users and companies the
above scenario takes place time after time.

As you know credit card fraud is increasing each day. As
merchants we should take every precaution to protect our
customers information. Now that being said I almost have to
wonder how many charge card companies are concerned about it?
It's amazing how little some card companies apparently care
about whether their customer's card numbers have been abducted
(or stolen that is), and seem even less willing to be helpful
about the situation.
ESPECIALLY, if you are a concerned merchant trying to do the
right thing and report the fraud attempt by a crook.
Geessh, do you know there are sites on the internet that are
used to actually list stolen credit card numbers? Obviously
not just anyone can get access to these sites, but rather
members of the "inside group" can.
What follows is a brief story of what happen to our company
over a holiday weekend, and the amazing lack of concern by the
card company involved. This is just one of the times we have
attempted to report an incident such as this and many times
the results were the same. Not every time, but several times.
First what made me think the order might be fraud:
Red Flag #1 Tuesday morning I noticed an order shipping to
another country but with a USA billing address.
Red Flag #2 The customer's email address was from a free email
provider.
Red Flag #3 The order was unusually large, plus the
astronomical shipping cost didn't seem to deter the customer
either.
Red Flag #4 They even commented to "Please rush the order"!
Red Flag #5 Finally, when the contact number was called, it
would ring once and then hang up every time.
So once again (as we have done in the past) we decided to call
and make the card company aware of the situation, in order to
protect THEIR card customer's account.
This particular charge card company had no toll free number to
call for such reports. Amazing, we have to pay for the call to
try to do a good deed for some unsuspecting individual. We
could have just voided the transaction and forgotten about it,
however we don't do business that way.
Fortunately (for me ..grin..) my wife handles this aspect of
our business. I hate all that administrative type stuff do
you? ...grin...
Anyway, she called the company and was greeted by this rude
customer service rep who informed her that she would have to
dial another number. Well this went on for 30 minutes being
transferred and given new numbers to call in order to report
the incident.
Geessh, you would think the card company would be glad a
company takes the initiative to try to help out.
In the end she got the report filed and the owner of the card
was going to be notified of the situation. Ironically there
were several charges that had come in on this card before she
had called, further indicating possible fraud according to the
nice (finally) customer service representative she talked
with.
However I wonder how many incidents such as this go
unreported. Especially if the company attempting to report the
fraud incident has to do a dog and pony show, jumping through
hoops along the way.
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people just hang up after
being treated rudely by certain customer service reps.
Now don't get me wrong, there are some companies we (well my
wife that is..grin..) have called that have been extremely
helpful and she was able to immediately report the incident.
So I guess to play off of an old cliché, "all card companies
and customer service representatives are not created equal"...
Ok, in closing here are some quick tips to help protect your
own personal information:
1. Keep your cards, PIN numbers, social security card and
other important ID information in a safe place.
2. Don't give out personal information to anyone on the phone
unless you ABSOLUTELY trust and know that person.
3. When disposing of old credit cards, checks, receipts and
other items that may contain personal information then SHRED
the cards and documents. Don't leave anything to chance.
4. Consider getting a credit report at least once a year to
watch for any unusual activity about your credit. Many times
it could be months before you are aware there is even a
problem.
