Today's issue is more of a prevention issue than anything. This
has been one of those weeks where if you were not prepared, you
were in hot water. Read in Voicing My Own Opinion section and
you'll see what I am talking about.
I apologize for any unanswered emails. I have been hit with no
less than 100 viruses this morning alone. I thought yesterday was
bad. Please everyone again if you have never heard this before,
please update your virus program.
Make sure your virus program starts when you turn on your PC. For

Funny even though I have McAfee on my PC, good old free AVG works
well. I am using a
firewall free from Zone Alarm. On my old PC, using Windows 98,
Zone Alarm was nothing but
trouble because it always blocked my Internet access, but it seems
to work fine with
Windows XP

When I heard about the big Blackout in New York and several other
states and part of Canada, I knew it was going to be a mess. Since
I am a native New Yorker, I have had my share of blackouts before
and since many of my relatives are still living there, I knew my
work was cut out for me.
I was the liaison for everyone who didn't have access anymore to
their televisions and radios. I felt bad for some of my relatives
who had to wait around 6-8 hours until they reached home only to
still stay in the dark until the next day.
But then I realized something else. Many probably thought this
would not affect them if they did not live in that particular
state.
Okay, now what about your hosting company or your Internet Service
Provider. Do you know where they are located?
Don't ever think that because you are on the other side of the
globe that a blackout can not affect you.
What about all the other services that we use on a daily basis?
Web hosting, Ad Tracking, List Hosting. the list goes on and on.
Are you prepared??
Does your web host allow you to back up all the files associated
with your site, Cgi scripts and all? If not look into it and
always keep back ups of everything.

This article still rings true to this day. How are you going to
handle any unexpected emergencies? Its not always about just
having extra flashlights and candles in the house.
Recently I have decided to keep everything in one notebook. All
login information, passwords, important url's, etc.
We can all keep everything on our computer but what about if you
are the only one in the house that is Computer Savvy? What then.
Make things as simple as possible in case of any emergency.
Write out all login details, passwords, Companies that bill you on
a monthly basis, how to access your list,your web site, etc.
Don't wait until it's too late. Because the bad thing about
emergencies are they always happen when you least expect them...

How To Avoid "Internet Marketing" Burnout

Frequently I hear from on-line friends who are leaving the
"arena" to go back to the off-line world. They have tired
of the Internet marketing game and all of the mental strain
it involved. They weren't making any real money and gave
up. They simply burned out and tired of the whole "racket."
The cause and solution to their very big problem often
jumps out at me. The solution to your avoiding the very
real possibility of internet marketing burnout becomes
very obvious upon closer examination.
Here's the typical scenario:
A person wants to supplement their income so that they can
afford some of the nicer things for themselves
and their families. Maybe they just want to get "out from
under" a staggering mountain of bills. While surfing
the internet they read about how others are making lots
of income by selling things on-line. So they decide that
this offers real possibilities for them.
This person reads about products and programs that make
sense to them and so they signup... and are often given
self-replicating websites to refer others to. They are
told to just begin referring others and then money will
start rolling in. They are told lots of ways to drive
traffic to their site. They get busy doing the things
they are told will work.
After a few months, this person hasn't made even a
single sale. They begin asking for advice on the
discussion forums and lists. Others who are in the same
predicament, help them brainstorm. The only problem with
the solutions that they often offer is that they aren't
producing any results for the "advisor!" As Harvey Mackay
titled one of his best-selling books, "Beware The Naked Man
Who Offers You The Shirt Off His Back!" Following this bad
advice and using unproven ideas, this person continues
struggling.
Eventually figuring out that *maybe* they're offering the
wrong product this person looks around and joins a few
more affiliate programs. They look for other products that
will hopefully sell better. The problem often is that they
*still* choose bad products. This is the number one problem
that I see among those not making any sales. They simply
choose products that no-one wants. So they spend another
3-6 months marketing other products nobody wants. They often
try to market these products to others marketing the same
products. They sometimes all seem to run the same ads in
the same ezines. Of course they don't make any sales.
That's the problem and why anybody would eventually
burnout and give up. Here's the solution:
First of all make sure that you only offer products that
people want, know that they want, and offer these products
to people willing to pay for them. As Marlon Sanders
frequently says, "Whatever they're buying, I'm selling."
Find out what the market wants by listening to them
describe their problems. Then offer solutions.
Identify problems that your customers have and make them
aware of the solution. You sometimes need to make them
aware of the *problem* first. That's just good copywriting
though. To learn good copywriting check out Bob Serling's

If your prospects aren't painfully aware of a problem they
have, then they probably aren't going to look for solutions.
Good copywriting makes them away or both problem and
solution. It saves you a lot of wasted time and frustration.
A second part of the puzzle that many miss is that you
need to make sure your customers are willing to pay for
the solution. I have nothing against people looking for
no-cost items but "freebie seekers" aren't going to buy
your product. Therefore, it's a total waste of time to
market to them. People who search for no-cost ways to
run their business often haven't figured out the real value
of their time. They haven't discovered that most often
it's worth paying a few dollars to get someone to provide
a product or service that's going to offer an immediate
and substantial return.
You must get your message in front of those who understand
that solutions to their problems have costs. The others
aren't willing to buy what you're offering no matter how
many times you present your message.

yourself several times - every day! Until you understand
that on a "gut level," you're setting yourself up for burnout.
The other major mistake many make which guarantees burnout
is that they get trapped in something that they hate doing.
If your on-line business involves something you enjoy doing,
then it doesn't seem like work. It seems more like a hobby
or you're just doing something you'd be doing anyway. Locate
others who share the same interests and many will become your
customers. That's another secret... people spend money on
their interests. Often those interests come with problems,
and so you offer solutions to those problems.
That's the quick and dirty solution to avoiding "internet
marketing burnout." Offer something that people want, know
that they want and are willing to pay for. Get involved
marketing something you enjoy marketing. Do the exact
opposite and you guarantee you're going to fail. Just think
about it! Then ask yourself if this is what you've been
doing. If so, change today and watch what a difference it
makes both in your income and in your happiness :-)

Mind Tricking Sales Letters

Hype is everywhere. There are no ebooks on internet
marketing, there are ebooks that change your life, bring you
wealth and happiness. Guess what happens when these ebooks
don't change their owners' lives? Right, buyers lose their
belief!
Today's sales letters copy writing provokes inevitable harm
to customers and creates a fertile land for scams.
Hype continues to grow decreasing accordingly the truthful
part. The line dividing the true business marketing and
marketing hype is difficult to catch due to increasing
number of tricks and techniques used by online marketers.
We ruin people's belief, we decrease the credibility of the
Internet as a business place, we support online scams and
spammers with our own hands, sometimes even without noticing
it.
I've spent months exploring so-called "Free" traffic or
promotion opportunities and after all discovered that all
they want is to put my money into their pocket only for my
right to advertise and promote their offers. I bet you have
been caught by this "Free" trick also.
Programming language in 3 hours? Web-design skills in 2
hours? What's next? A millionaire in 1 hour? You can buy a
product along with web-sites provided, which you could setup
and start running within 2 hours, but you will never be able
to understand the methods and techniques of writing your own
ebook or creating a professional web-site while that
blatantly advertised period of time.
Guess what happens with a true "inventor", who, say,
developed his own system of completely learning Perl
language in a month. We all know that it is a true system,
but due to well-advertised hype, no one will pay any
attention to him, unless he states something similar to
"Become a programming guru in two hours!" But he can't do
that just because his system has been designed to learn the
languages in a month, not in an hour or two.
So ask yourself who wins under such conditions at the end?
The answer is obvious - scams, who proclaim unfair benefits
and play on people's laziness! Who loses? The developers of
true fundamental systems that can really teach people a new
knowledge, considering people's learning abilities, spare
time etc.
I will share my simple rule with you. If I see at someone's
web-site statement proclaiming I will get any knowledge in
several hours others take months to learn, I immediately
close down the browser window, sometimes stop my online
session in order to forget the path to this site forever.
Solicited testimonials? Are they objective and true? Are
they informative for the visitor? Could you find a natural
or negative testimonial in someone's sales letter? Maybe one
or two in the entire internet just because of unprofessional
author. So why everyone tells you, that testimonials are so
important? Simply it is another psychological trigger for
the mind.
Want to build credibility? Great! Publish unsolicited
clients' feedback. If there is none, think of improving your
offer rather than bribing your customers to write a
testimonial for you.
I see strong tendency towards hype, tricks and nonsense only
to force a visitor buy. It will not be a big surprise if I
soon encounter an ad with 20 supporting testimonials telling
me that if I buy particular book today, then tomorrow I will
construct a jet-plain. That's why there is an army of
disappointed people who bought 150 ebooks and simply don't
know what to do and what they need them for.
The roots of that marketing garbage conclude in fierce
competition. When hundreds of sellers try to promote the
same product using similar web-page, the competition becomes
so tough that it is almost impossible to market without
advertising fraud.
In order to profit you should make your offer as unique as
possible. No more, no less.
Make your offer to be addressed to the buyers' side, don't
force them (using marketing hype) buy product that you know
is not good enough or even fake at all. To my mind, the best
way is to inform your customer about his/her benefits along
with the features, not instead. Let the customer choose what
features are really beneficial, and what aren't. Only that
way can be fully objective in relation to your customer.
Given you're having great offer, full customer satisfaction
is what will make your business literally explode.
Be honest. The result of selling one more hype product is
temporal, integrity and honesty with people you are dealing
with is for entire life. Decide what is more important for
you.
