Editor's Notes
_______________________________________________________________
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of MIBW.
A Big welcome to all the new subscribers since the last edition. I have some great articles for you today. Since in last week's voice your opinion column dealt with good customer service, I have an article from Laurie Rogers that puts it to a tee. Get well soon Laurie.
I also have a funny article that really reminded me to get up off the computer every now and then before I become a computer :)
Lastly there is an article from Jan Tallent-Dandridge from Rim Digest about how one should submit articles to publishers. Since Friday is when I showcase articles sent to me, then this fits in perfectly. So if you are not sure how to get your articles together to send out to ezine publishers, then read that article and you can't say you don't know now.
I have a new contest that is starting February 1st, which is a joint venture between myself and other publishers. You will see the details on Friday.
February 1st is also the deadline for the Buy 2 Get 1 Free Sale on Ads, so hurry up because the links are going down Saturday night.

Voice Your Opinion ( Back Again..)

Here are the responses to last week's questions. I also have two new questions for you as well. Enjoy
Recap of Last Week's Questions
1. I plan to purchase a new computer soon and I would like to know for those of you who have bought new systems, how did you transfer the files from your old computer ( for instance your email files) to your new computer. Did you have to use a cd burner or do you just network between computers?
Hello Donesia,
I bought a new computer when mine crashed. What the tech did was build me a bigger one and then inserted the old hard drive in it along with the new. Also put in a CD rom Burner which I feel every publisher should have to back up each night.
It's a Equis computer
850 Mhz
496 Mb of ram
You can use a CD burner for your to B/U all your files and then re-insert to the new one.

Hi Donesia,
The last computer I had died when the cpu fan went out and the chip burned up. Fortunately, the hard drive was unharmed. I simply took the old hard drive and added it as a slave drive in my new computer.
That way, not only did I still have all my old stuff, but I also had a lot more available storage space. Just delete the old operating system from the slave drive to avoid any conflicts.

Hi Donesia,
I just bought a new computer yesterday because my poor
4 1/2 year old computer was dying. I haven't yet
transferred the information from my old PC to the new
one, but I plan to use networking. I've never done
anything like this before, but from what I understand,
it's a lot easier and faster. My new computer came with
Ethernet already installed, so I plan to try it.

Hi Donesia! Thanks for asking the question 'What is the deciding factor when you purchase online?".
I have made numerous purchases of ebooks
and other marketing tools. I guess I am a trusting person but if the dollar amount is not outrageous (less than $40.00), I have been known to take a chance. I read the content of the site and if I can detect the sincere effort of the owner to explain the benefits and I comprehend the potential for success
I can be convinced.
I have two retail websites of my own. I hope the home
pages and the fact that I have my personal contact information available will assist anyone wishing to purchase from my sites in deciding to do so. The fear of exposing your credit card info is overrated as the waiter or clerk you allow to process your order in person is more likely to 'steal' your information
for fraudulent purposes.
As society progresses and the Internet becomes
more reliable, I am sure the convenience of letting your fingers do the walking and your mouse do the talking will become self evident!

2. What is the deciding factor when you purchase a product or service online?
With the exception of the big commercial sites, when you are looking either to advertise or to buy an ebook, or a web design, etc. What encourages you to buy?
Do you need contact information, phone numbers, or is it a familiarity with the site owner, ( ex, you are subscribed to their newsletter) ??
>>>
From: Codrut Turcanu
http://BizMarketingSecrets.com
When I buy something it's because I know
and trust the owner of the site/product or
it's because someone told me to take a look
(word of mouth advertising! ... :) ... )
However, I firstly email the owner and talk
with him/her before... if the SUPPORT is
GREAT than I'll purchase if not...
Customer SERVICE is very important online!
Thanks,
Codrut Turcanu.

QUESTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK'S COLUMN:
Hi again Donesia, yes I have a question
for all your readers, maybe I receive some
answers...
QUESTION: Does anyone have had GREAT
results with Traffic Swarm Program?
http://ts.BizMarketingSecrets.com
Thanks,
Codrut Turcanu.
My Question:
So Codrut's question reminds me that I would like to know what is your best way of getting traffic to your site?
Do those start page programs really work?
What about sites that bring you traffic for a cost?
Does any software handle traffic and promotion for you?
If you have a question that you want answered, anything that has to do with business, computer related, etc, just send it here and I will post it for everyone to answer

Hide and Seek?
______________________________________________________________
by Laurie Rogers
There is absolutely nothing worse than trying to find out
WHO the person is that owns a web site. I'm sure you all
know what I'm talking about. Doesn't that just drive you
NUTS? It drives me especially crazy when these "people"
have the nerve to call themselves a "professional". Yeah
ok, I thought putting all your contact information on your
web site is what classes you as a "professional". Hmmm,
maybe I slept through that part in school.
And just what are they a Professional of? Hide and seek?
Heck didn't we stop playing that game when we were like
5 or 6? I guess some people love that game so much they
thought it'd be fun to do it online too. "Hey, let's see how
long it takes our visitors to find out WHO we are, bet they
can't find us"!
Well guess what Mr. Hide and Seek? You're the one that's
going lose out on SALES! Yeah ... you know the stuff that
brings you in CASH so you can pay your bills? (And there
goes Mr. Hide and Seek crying his eyes out again cause
he is not making any money online). Gee, I wonder why?
Like, HELLO let's get with the program here buddy! You
gotta tell us WHO you are and WHERE we can reach you,
BEFORE we start shelling out the bucks.
Now here's a kicker ...
The other day while I was sifting through ezines that I am
subscriber of, I was looking for publishers names to add
to my article list. I must've went through 5 ezines before I
had actually even found a persons name AND their email
address together. So I thought ok, well I'll just click on their
links to find out WHO they are. Guess what I found when I
got there? NOT a darn thing!
Now here comes the real kicker! In one persons ezine, no
name, no email address - so I head on over to their site.
And what do I find? A whack of testimonials addressed to
.... drum roll please ..... Webmaster! Can YOU all believe
that? I think this person really took the use of the name
"webmaster" just too literally. But the question is .. WHO
are all these crazy people buying stuff from this person?
It really makes you wonder ..... cause they gotta be fake!
Like that'd be the day, I sent in a testimonial to someone
who can't even tell me WHO they are, let alone BUY from
them in the first place. Give me a break here, as if people
are going to address you as "webmaster" in a testimonial.
I may be a little slow some days, but I am not that stupid
to fall for that old routine.
The moral of this story is, put YOUR contact information
on your web site and you might just get some business!
We are all way too old to be playing hide and seek with
YOU.

The Top Ten Things That Prove You've Gone Over the Deep End With Internet Marketing
______________________________________________________________
By Rick Adams
Ready ... here we go.
#10 - You're Irish so you combine the "Luck of the Irish"
with the Internet Money God and name your first male son
"Yanik O'Reily".
#9 - Instead of telling your kids a bedtime story, you
summarize the latest article on digital watermarking.
#8 - You record your answering machine with one of Armand
Morin's new audio testimonials.
#7 - The slang version of PDF is spoken at the dinner table
and now stands for "Pass Da Food".
#6 - You burn a CD with Marlon Sander's greatest audio email
hits!
#5 - You create a bobble-head figure of Joe Vitale and use
it to "hypnotize" your kids into eating their vegetables.
#4 - You replace your embroidered "Home Sweet Home" wall
picture with a 15-inch flat panel screen displaying "Niche
Sweet Niche".
#3 - You hire Ted Ciuba to market your own boot camp
called ... How To Get Rich and Understand Women Boot Camp.
#2 - You hold weekly tele-seminars with your relatives
announcing the plans for your daughter's wedding. Each
week you select one participant to receive a free ticket to
the wedding (value $1,997) otherwise they can get in for
the discounted rate of $997. This price does allow them to
bring one guest.
And The #1 Thing That Proves You've Gone Over the Deep End
with Internet Marketing is ...
#1 - You create a digital photo album named ...

Get Me to Publish Your Article
_______________________________________________________________
by Jan Tallent-Dandridge,
publisher of Rim digest ezine
I get from ten to thirty article submissions per day.
I can use two or three per issue and on a good day
may book ahead as much as a month's worth of these.
There are some terrific, some good and some awful ways
to submit your articles; some will almost guarantee
they will run as soon as possible and some are sure
ways to get your submission deleted.
My favorite article submittals send me a nice, friendly
little note, call me by name and know what my ezine is
called.
The content of the email can be short and sweet
and to the point, such as, "Dear Jan, I am an avid
reader of Rim Digest and offer you my newest article
for your kind consideration in a future issue. If you
like it and feel your readers would benefit from my
work, please feel free to use it at your convenience.
Please use the resource box at the end of the article
and thank you for your time and consideration."
Or as effusive as, "Dear Jan, I am one of your adoring
fans and would like to humbly offer my latest article
for publication in your awesome Rim digest ezine! If
you feel it is worthy of your time and the space in
one of my very favorite newsletters, please feel free
to share it with your very selective readers. I am
always quite proud to see my work in such a wonderful
publication and am grateful for the exposure you so
generously provide for your article writers.
Please use the resource box below and if needed, feel
free to edit or change it for your formatting needs.
Sincerely and respectfully yours."
(These are not exaggerations, they are actually real
submission notes I held onto when I decided this
article would someday be written.)
Now, on to the BEST ways to get ME to delete your
article, which may be brilliant, before I do more
than scan it, if I even go that far. Send me your
article with an opening like this:
"Hi, dear editor. Great ezine! I am sending you
my EXCELLENT article that is getting rave reviews
all over the net and will ALLOW you to use it in
an upcoming issue. I am SURE your readers will find
great satisfaction and pleasure from my BRILLIANT
offering! You may use this article exactly as it is
being delivered to you and if 1200 words wrapped at
70 characters, triple spaced and in html does not
fit in with YOUR format, I suggest you change around
your entire ezine to use this gem I am so graciously
bestowing upon you because every other editor of
every other ezine is begging for my work."
"Since I am far too busy to subscribe TO your ezine,
send me a complimentary copy when my article runs
and make sure you use my 20 line resource box so
that I can make commissions on all 12 of my affiliate
programs. Check all of my links before you run it,
too, I get so irritated when a publisher will not
take the time to check all of my urls and make sure
they are up and running! If you are not smart enough
to realize how privileged you are to get these
wonderful outpourings of my SUPERB brain, you MAY
click on the link below and I will not honor you
with more of my work. Click at your own risk, ALL
of the other publishers jump to use MY articles
in place of previously scheduled content because
I am so much in demand."
Okay, that was a TAD over-done, but believe me,
most was taken out of 2 or 3 and combined to show
you what NOT to write to ME if you would like your
article published in MY ezine!
I have been the publisher of Rim digest for going
on three years (February 2000!) and have SEVERAL
good buddies who are also publishers. It would
never, ever occur to me to send THEM anything
but a friendly/professional note with one of MY
articles! Yes, I am *rather* famous on the net
but I would never presume that my meanderings
will please anyone but MAYBE myself!
How can someone write to me, admitting they do
not even have the respect to take a MINUTE to
get my NAME and the name of my ezine- and presume
to tell ME how excellent their article is and better
yet, what MY subscribers like? Heck, I do not even
know most of the time what my own subs want, how
can someone else be so sure? And yes, sending me
articles gives me the content that I publish but
is this not a MUTUAL favor we are exchanging?
You send me great content, I give you terrific
exposure in a very popular ezine? Geez!
In a nutshell, my advice for submitting your pearls
of wisdom are these:
1- Subscribe to the ezines you submit to
2- Learn the editor's name
3- Use both the editor's name and ezine name
4- Do not beg or grovel but be humble or sincere
5- Do not BRAG on your work, let the editor do that
6- Do not tell the editor what his or her subscribers
will or will not like
7- Be respectful and you will usually receive the
same treatment back
8- Send me your new articles so we can help each other out!
Thanks for listening and in case you are wondering, NO,
the writers you DO see in Rim digest are not from the
"how NOT to submit your article" club. (That is why you
SEE their articles in Rim digest ezine!)
