Hi everyone and welcome to another edition of MIBW.
Thanks to everyone who sent me emails on Saturday after my site was hacked. I was able to fix it quickly after deleting the offending page from my server space.
Host 4 Profit, my web hosting company upgraded their servers to prevent an attack like this from happening again. But I wasn't the only one who suffered Saturday.

What's Coming Up in Future Issues of My IBiz Weekly

Over the next few weeks, I figured I might let you know about some of the up coming topics that will be covered in My IBiz Weekly.
MY IBIZ SERIES
I will continue with the series but now its focus is on web design and marketing and promotion.
I realize that a bunch of us waste our time and money on unnecessary things for our business. Keeping up with the Internet Jones' is making a lot of us broke before we get rich, so I am also going to look for a bunch of low cost or free alternatives to your site basics.
This time of the year is always a slow time for the internet so instead of complaining about the money we aren't making, let's improve on what you have so far so you can move forward instead of still taking care of the basics.
With all the so-called pay to send email companies emerging, it can only get worse before it gets better. I notice that there will be an increase in more web based ezines.
I did receive an email today from Paul Myers of Talk Biz News about a new product out there to help eliminate the spam problem. I have just downloaded the product this morning and have not had a chance to review it yet but here is the link

EBOOKS, AND MORE EBOOKS
Occasionally I send you offers on the newest ebooks out there. I have tons, and I mean tons of ebooks sitting on my hard drive and have not taken the time to read it.
Why???
Too busy trying to do everything that people say will help you online.
You don't even get a chance to breathe these days let alone look at what you download these days.
But one thing that I haven't touched on is how to create an ebook.
I see a lot of ezines telling you to create one but I haven't seen many that show you step by step how to do it.
So I figured I have wanted to create an ebook since last year but I never had the time before, so why don't we create an ebook together. We can all learn from our mistakes.
I am still working on the details for that, and sometime next month I will give you the specifics for that project.
We can all create an ebook step by step and at least when we are done, you can't say you don't have your own product to sell or give away to your visitors. Brand recognition is here.
Of course we will get into the specifics of selling ebooks, making a profit from them, what sells and what doesn't.
So that is basically where we are headed over the next few months.

WEAVE WELL: Writing Tips For The Web...ON 'WEAVING WELL'

I thought this week I'd take a step back from the nitty-gritty of commas and so on, and explain why I'm calling this column on writing for the web - 'Weave Well'.
I've actually 'borrowed' this motto from another 'web' - not the world wide one, but an eminent 19th-century architect called Sir Aston Webb. He designed among other things part of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the facade of Buckingham Palace, and was responsible for the major restoration during the 1890s of the Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great (where I'm the part-time Director of Development - check it out at

By talking about 'weaving well', Sir Aston and his family were of course playing on their surname by referring to the kind of perfect web made by a spider - and a spider's web was indeed their pictorial device.
The idea of 'weaving well' fits just as accurately with attempting good writing for the world wide web as it did with trying to make the perfect building. In a piece of writing for the web - as indeed for any piece of writing, but particularly for short, succinct pieces - no word must be out of place, but each must fit with the rest and go to make up the whole, just as each brick or stone in a well-built building needs to be in the right place, contributing to the overall effect and stability. No individual word, no individual stone is there to bring attention to itself, but only to contribute to the whole.
The poet T.S. Eliot expressed this ideal perfectly in his poem 'Little
Gidding':
'And every phrase
And sentence that is right (where every word is at home,
Taking its place to support the others,
The word neither diffident nor ostentatious,
An easy commerce of the old and the new,
The common word exact without vulgarity,
The formal word precise but not pedantic,
The complete consort dancing together)...'
So let us all endeavour to weave well in making our own contribution to the world wide web. We may feel we don't have much influence on world events, but we make a difference and contribute to civilization just by doing what we do as well as we possibly can.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I SPEND ON ADVERTISING MY SITE? PART II

In part I we looked at three things you need to decide before
you can calculate how much to spend on advertising. In part
II we will look at how to take that information and put it to
use.
Using the numbers we came up with in part I, let's see how
much we can afford to spend on advertising:
ON TARGETED CUSTOMERS (pay per click, etc.)
100 visitors/sale, $4 per sale advertising means 40 cents
per visitor.
ON TARGETED NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBERS
10,000 subscribers/4 sales, $4 per sale advertising means
$16 per 10,000 subscribers.
ON NON-TARGETED NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBERS
10,000 subscribers/1 sale, $4 per sale advertising means $4
per 10,000 subscribers.
ON NON-TARGETED VISITORS (Start-page rotators, etc.)
1,000 visitors/1 sale, $4 per sale advertising means 4 cents
per visitor.
POP-BEHIND ADS
This one requires an additional calculation...
1 sale comes from 100 visitors, 100 visitors are generated by
25,000 pop-behind ads.
25,000 pop-behind ads are worth $4 in advertising or $.16 per
1000 ads (often referred to as CPM or Cost Per Thousand).
BANNER ADS:
This works much like pop-behinds...
1 sale comes from 100 visitors, 100 visitors come from
500,000 banner impressions.
500,000 banner impressions are worth $4 in advertising or .8
cents per 1000.
I hope this helps make sense of your advertising dollars.
Keep in mind that we are talking about a product with a very
small profit margin. If you are selling something where you
make $50 and can spend $25 on advertising, the numbers will
all increase.
Just don't get suckered into thinking that 100,000 banner
ads for $500 is a great deal...it may be, but you need to
know exactly what you are getting.
